“The Sudanese people call upon all peace-loving nations to support the country’s endeavours to achieve long-lasting peace, stability, and prosperity,” the embassy said in a statement, here, today.
It said following a lengthy and thorough negotiation overseen by the AU, the TMC and FFC successfully signed the Constitutional Document on Aug 17, paving the way for the establishment of transitional institutions for a period of three years and three months (39 months).
It added that the signing, made by TMC deputy head Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and Ahmad al-Rabie from the FFC in Khartoum, was witnessed by – among others – AU president and Egypt Prime Minister Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Ethiopia’s prime minister Abiy Ahmed, foreign ministers from Qatar and Uganda, and several dignitaries and representatives from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
“The document establishes a power-sharing deal and provides for joint civilian-military structures and ruling bodies, namely the Sovereign Council, the Transitional Cabinet of Ministers and Transitional Legislative Assembly,” the statement said.
It said these three bodies will oversee the transitional government for the coming 39 months, after which a general election will follow.
