Beleaguered Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has finally succumbed to domestic and foreign pressure and agreed not to extend his term in office.
Farmajo who appeared to prove his critics wrong also agreed to return to the negotiating table with regional leaders to pave way for elections. He was addressing a press conference on the night of Tuesday, April 27, which was widely watched by thousands of viewers who had tuned in to three live streaming stations.
“Unfortunately, our efforts were hampered by individuals, and foreign entities who have no aim other than to destabilize the country and take it back,” President Farmaajo said.
There has been tension in the country after Farmajo extended his presidential mandate in February 2021, sparking a fresh round of political violence.
